# How to Answer a Maintenance Approval

Approve or decline what Geni asks, accept vendor quotes, and pay invoices from the attention panel.

When Geni needs a decision, or a vendor has sent a quote or an unpaid invoice, a yellow panel shows up at the top of **Maintenance**. Its title is either **Geni needs your OK** or **Needs your attention**. While a decision is waiting, the request row shows **Your OK** in the **Needs action** column.

## Before you start

- Sign in as a landlord.

- Maintenance has to be on your plan.

- The panel only appears when something is waiting.

## Approve or decline what Geni asked

1. Read the summary on the panel. It names the request.

2. Select **REVIEW** to jump to that request in the list.

3. Select **APPROVE** to let Geni go ahead.

4. To say no, select **Decline**, add a note if you want (up to 500 characters), and select **DECLINE**.

Where a decline goes depends on what you were asked:

- If you're declining a request to verify the work, the note placeholder says the vendor will get the message. Your note goes to the vendor, and the job goes back to them to fix.

- Any other decline goes to Geni. The placeholder suggests telling Geni what to do instead.

After you approve, the screen says Geni is carrying it out, and Geni does that step on its next turn. Approving doesn't pay the vendor or post a resident charge. Each of those has its own button.

When more than one Geni decision is waiting, **APPROVE ALL** approves them one at a time. It doesn't pay invoices.

If the due time has passed, the line reads **Geni is holding off until you answer**, and you can still approve or decline. To change how long Geni waits, set **How long Geni waits for your answer** in settings to anywhere from 1 to 168 hours, or leave it blank for 30 minutes. See How to Set Up Geni for Maintenance.

You can also answer from the link in the email. That link stops working 7 days after it was sent. The panel in the app has no time limit.

## Accept a vendor quote

A quote from the assigned vendor stays on the panel until you accept one.

1. Optional: select **REVIEW** to open the request first.

2. Select **ACCEPT** on the quote.

Accepting a quote sets the most Geni can pay later, which is the quote plus 10 percent. You can still pay a different amount yourself. See How to Pay a Maintenance Invoice.

## Pay from the panel

When a vendor-submitted invoice still has money due, the panel shows **PAY**. It opens the pay invoice drawer and works separately from **APPROVE**.
